Pottery As Art

I love creating pottery as art, I have a BSA in Art, a minor in English, and Master’s degree in Secondary Education, with an emphasis in Studio Art.

My independent study art coursework consisted of painting, photography, and ceramics. I am not here to impress you with my credentials though; my education does not make me an artist. I was born an artist.

I was largely denied any art training as a child through the schools I attended. I mostly taught myself.

I am pleased that for the first time in my life, I have my own pottery studio. I am currently expanding it to include a glaze pantry. It is a slow, expensive endeavor, but I need to be able to make my own custom glazes and underglazes.

I have an affinity for making decorative forms of utilitarian pottery. Honestly, I enjoy marking on the surface of the pots more than building the vessel. Instead of cranking out as many pots as I possibly can, I will be slowing down, I am a pottery artist so I will now be focusing on one-of-a-kind pieces, creating pottery as art.

Please be patient with me though as, I am only able to work in the studio part time at the moment. I will be unveiling a new body of work some time after the holidays.
